No Parent Starts Out Knowing What To Do
We enter parenthood with the best of intentions, carrying our own experiences, beliefs, expectations, and ideas about what it means to be a good parent. Somewhere along the way, the reality of parenting begins to look very different from what we imagined.
Without conscious effort, we fall into familiar patterns. We react instead of responding, we get caught in power struggles, and we parent in ways that create conflict when what we really want is connection. Sometimes the hardest part is realizing that the way we were parented shapes the way we parent, even when we desperately want to do things differently.
But your story does not have to become your child's story.
No matter what your relationship with your child looks like today, there is hope. Maybe you are exhausted by the arguments. Maybe you are questioning yourself. Maybe you keep trying the same things and getting the same results. Or maybe you simply know that you want to parent differently, and you are not sure how.
There is another way. Parenting is not about becoming perfect. It is about becoming more conscious, more connected, and more intentional in the way you show up for your children.
You can learn to respond instead of react. You can change patterns that no longer serve your family. You can repair and strengthen your relationship with your child.
And it can start right here.
Hi! I'm Catherine Dunn
For more than 20 years, my work has centred on adult education, helping people learn, grow, and feel more confident in themselves. Over time, that work led me to a question I hear parents ask again and again: how do I know if I am doing this right?
Parenting is one of the most important roles we will ever have, yet most of us are expected to figure it out as we go. Advice arrives from family, friends, social media, books, schools, and experts, and much of it conflicts.
Some of my greatest learning has come from raising three children, each with very different personalities, strengths, and needs. They taught me that there is no single formula. What works beautifully for one child may not work at all for another.
I created CD Parenting to make becoming a calm, confident, connected parent simpler and easier. Through years of research and training in child development, emotional intelligence, communication, attachment, and boundaries, I have brought together practical tools that help parents understand what to do, why it matters, and how to use it in everyday family life.
My goal is not to hand parents more information. I have done the research so you do not have to.
There is no perfect way to parent, and you do not need to have all the answers. My mission is to make the path to confident, connected parenting easier to find, and easier to follow.
Be the calm, confident parent your child deserves.
"I have finally stopped being the mom who yells all the time. Instead of reacting, getting frustrated, and then feeling guilty, I now understand what is happening beneath the behaviour and how to respond. The biggest difference is that I finally trust myself as a parent."
-Joanne Walker, parent of two
"There is so much parenting advice out there that I never knew what I was supposed to be doing. CD Parenting made it simple. I learned not only what to do, but why it works, and that has changed the way I parent completely."
-Parent of a ten-year-old
"I came to CD Parenting feeling like I had tried everything, exhausted by constant power struggles. The tools were practical and easy to use in real life. I now set boundaries while staying connected, and my child and I feel like we are on the same team again."
-Aaliya Aubrey, parent of three
The Traditional Power-Over Model Of Parenting Is Not Working
And if you are struggling, it does not mean you are a bad parent.
Most of us were never actually taught how to parent. We were taught how to manage behaviour, enforce rules, and get our children to listen. We parent from the patterns we lived ourselves, often without realizing it. Then, when those approaches leave us frustrated, disconnected, and stuck in the same argument over and over, we assume the problem is us.
It is not. The problem is that we have been given very little guidance on how to become the kind of parent we actually want to be.
That is where CD Parenting comes in. I have spent years researching parenting, child development, emotional intelligence, communication, and the science behind strong relationships between parents and children. I have done the work of bringing all of that together, so that you do not have to navigate it on your own.
I also understand how hard it is to ask for help as a parent. When you contact me, you will not be judged, and you will not be told that there is one right way to parent. You will be met with understanding, openness, and practical support as we look honestly at what is happening in your family and what you want to change.
Together we will build a personalized, practical plan that gives you the knowledge, the tools, and the confidence to respond differently, strengthen your connection with your child, and become the parent you want to be.
You do not need to become a perfect parent. You simply need the right tools, the right direction, and the support to put them into practice.
Here's How It Works:
When you book a call with me, we will take some time to talk about what is happening for you and your family. Together we will identify where you may need support, and how I can help.
I will walk you through my approach
and the different ways we can work together. You will have the chance to ask any questions and explore what type of support feels right for you, your family, and your schedule.
If it feels like the right fit,
we can book our first session and get started. If I feel another resource would better meet your needs, I will do my best to point you in the right direction. There is no pressure, simply an opportunity to connect and see whether we are right to work together.
Let's Talk!
Set up a time for us to connect, so that you can stop blaming yourself and start moving toward the kind of parent you know you can be. Ready to shift from stress and self-doubt to greater calm, confidence, and connection?
Let's take the first step together.
